Our hydrodynamic or hydrostatic thrust bearings are optimised for high speed, high load and dynamic applications. They float on an oil or lubricant film thanks to an active oil supply provided by an existing infrastructure or independently.
This design ensures
Our thrust bearings with an innovative material structure consist of several layers of different materials.
This multi-layer design makes it possible to cope with higher loads. We can flexibly adapt the properties of the materials to maximise the performance and service life of your bearings.
Our thrust bearings can be optimised for extremely high speeds and dynamic applications. This flexible and customised design ensures exceptional performance and stability in the most demanding applications.
The special design also ensures quiet operation and high load capacity.
All our bearings are also metallic and lead-free on request, with flexible design and state-of-the-art coating techniques. This ensures that we can meet your specific requirements.
If your bearings are not performing as required, it may be that you are using the wrong type of bearing.
Are your current bearings unable to cope with the high loads and speeds? Our thrust bearings are specially designed to meet these requirements. They keep your equipment running longer.
Is your installation space limited and are you looking for compact solutions? Miba's thrust bearings take up less space and increase power density at the same time. This allows you to make optimum use of the available installation space.
Is your installation space limited and are you looking for compact solutions? Miba's thrust bearings take up less space and increase power density at the same time. This allows you to make optimum use of the available installation space.
Do you already have bearings in use, but they contain lead and therefore pose an environmental problem? Miba's thrust bearings are partially lead-free, highly resilient and environmentally friendly.
At Miba, you benefit from our comprehensive materials expertise. We produce our materials in our own plants, which gives us unique control over material composition.
This enables our development team to carry out tests quickly, determine the ideal composition and make adjustments. As a result, we produce materials that can withstand extreme loads of up to 180 MPa.
Our thrust bearings operate on the hydrodynamic principle, where the shaft floats on a fluid film. This ensures virtually maintenance-free operation, especially in continuous 24/7 applications.
While other bearing systems have a service life of around 5000 hours, hydrodynamic plain bearings offer a unlimited life time in hydrodynamic mode.
Miba´s thrust bearings allow systems to be made more powerful in the same space. They also enable weight savings that improve the overall efficiency of your designs.

An thrust plain bearing is a bearing specially designed to support axial forces. These are forces acting along the axis of the bearing. Unlike radial plain bearings, which support mainly radial forces, thrust plain bearings are designed to support compression or tension along the bearing axis.
It works by utilising a lubricating film created between the bearing surfaces. This lubricating film, created by hydrodynamic or hydrostatic principles, reduces friction and prevents direct contact between the bearing surfaces. This provides low friction and long life performance, particularly in applications with constant or high axial loads.
A hydrodynamic thrust plain bearing uses a supplied oil or lubricant film on which the bearing 'floats'. This significantly reduces wear as there is no direct contact between the bearing surfaces. It also dampens vibration, is quiet and is particularly suitable for continuous load applications.
Self-lubricating bearings, on the other hand, require built-in lubricants that need regular maintenance and re-lubrication.
Aluminium, bronze and babbitt. Some of our bearings are lead-free.
Coating can be essential for certain requirements to improve the performance and life of thrust plain bearings. It reduces friction and wear, increases load capacity and protects against corrosion.
Miba uses advanced coating technologies such as electroplating and sputtering to produce uniform and highly resilient coatings. Our coatings offer optimum tribological and damping properties. They are specially developed for demanding applications and different materials such as aluminium, bronze and babbitt.
