- EUR 100 million invested in the future just in the past fiscal year – high equity ratio of 52.8 percent is the basis for this
Laakirchen, May 12, 2023. In the past fiscal year 2022/23 (2/1/2022 to 1/31/2023), Miba reached an important milestone. Its annual revenue passed the one-billion Euros mark for the first time – and by a significant amount, increasing by almost 15 percent in comparison to the previous year to reach EUR 1.114 billion. Every business area of the technology group grew. At 59 percent, the major part of the revenue came from the industrial goods market, while Miba achieved 41 percent of its revenue in the automotive sector.
Growth driven by decarbonization and electrification:
Focus on technologies for greater energy efficiency and sustainability
Ten years ago, Miba’s revenue still stood at around EUR 600 million; since then it has almost doubled. “As our next milestone, we have set ourselves the goal of growing to a revenue of EUR 1.5 billion by 2027”, says Miba CEO F. Peter Mitterbauer. To achieve this, the company wants to use the opportunities arising from the megatrends decarbonization and electrification. “On the basis of our corporate mission “Technologies for a cleaner planet”, we want to develop and produce technologically demanding components for greater efficiency and sustainability along the entire energy value chain – thus for the generation, transmission, storage and use of energy”, explains Mitterbauer. He also gives an example of how well this is already succeeding today: “In the past fiscal year alone, our revenue from technologies for wind power has more than doubled.” There are a multitude of uses for Miba products in wind turbines: bearings for the gear and rotor main bearing, friction materials to safely slow down the extremely heavy rotor blades, as well as power resistors and cooling technologies to control and protect the electronics. Miba also produces milling machines for the assembly of the large tube elements needed for offshore wind turbine towers.
100 percent ownership of Miba Battery Systems acquired -
EUR 80 million in total already invested in eMobility
Miba can also utilize many market opportunities in eMobility. The company has already invested EUR 80 million in establishing this new business area, and has developed a wide product portfolio since 2016. This strategy is now paying off: sales of technologies for battery electric vehicles more than quadrupled within the past two years. To further accelerate this growth path, last fall Miba opened its first battery production plant worldwide in Bad Leonfelden. It is operated by the subsidiary Miba Battery Systems – formerly Voltlabor – in which Miba recently acquired all the shares, making it the sole owner.
Financial independence creates
scope for major investments
Miba’s financial independence is an essential prerequisite for investing in the future. An important figure for this is the equity ratio, which has further increased to 52.8 percent. Thanks to this financial strength, Miba was able to invest EUR 100 million in the past fiscal year alone – EUR 56 million in property, plant and equipment, and EUR 44 million in research and development. The R&D ratio, in other words the proportion of revenue spent on research and development, was once again industry-leading at 4 percent.
EUR 2.6 million for training and development
Additional employees sought continuously
Last but not least, in the past fiscal year Miba once again made a substantial investment of EUR 2.6 million in training and developing its employees. In addition, around 240 apprentices are being trained worldwide, around half of them in Austria. Due to the Group’s strong growth, Miba is continuously seeking additional employees: some 100 vacancies are currently being filled in Austria alone. As well as a corporate culture shaped by innovation, flat hierarchies, open communication and global cooperation, Miba also offers its employees extensive facilities for optimally combining work and family life, with an in-house creche and vacation childcare, health and fitness programs, plus many more benefits such as a subsidized leasing option for electric bikes.
