Renaming of the Austrian site to Miba Resistors Austria GmbH and the American site to Miba Resistors US LLC to achieve universal alignment across the entire company.

Revenue exceeds EUR
1 billion for the first time

With 1.114 billion Euros, Miba’s revenue exceeds the one billion Euro mark for the first time in the 2022/23 business year. It is an important milestone in the growth strategy with which Miba intends to continue growing to 1.5 billion Euros by 2027.

Just a few months after Miba acquired a majority shareholding, Miba Battery Systems opens Austria’s most advanced battery production plant covering an area of 3,900 m2 in Bad Leonfelden.

Joint venture
in bearings segment

Miba and the Zollern Group combine their decades of experience and their global presence in the bearings segment in a joint venture. Miba holds a 74.9 percent share and has the industrial leadership. It contributes its five production facilities for engine bearings, the Zollern Group two industrial bearing plants and one engine bearing plant. Other Miba Group business areas are not affected. The four industrial bearing plants purchased from John Crane in 2018 are also not part of the joint venture.

Industrial Bearings as
a new field of business

2018

With the acquisition of the Industrial Bearings segment of the John Crane Group Miba enters a new field of business, the development and production of industrial bearings. The Miba Bearings Group grows by four production sites in the United States and in Germany and by about 300 employees.

2017

Worldwide
business expansion

Miba acquires full ownership of the joint venture of the Brazilian sinter component manufacturer in Indaiatuba near São Paulo. Since July 1^st the company trades under the name Miba Sinter Brasil (MSB), employing 350 people.
Moreover, Miba acquires 75% ownership of “ABM – Advanced Bearing Materials LLC” at Greensburg in Indiana as of August 2017.

Miba Forum

2017

The new main headquarters in Laakirchen, the Miba Forum, will be opened on the company’s 90th anniversary. Along with creative spaces for research and development, offices, conference and training rooms will take up 4,000 m² of floor space.

F. Peter Mitterbauer succeeds his father as Chairman of the Management Board of Miba AG.

The Miba Group invests in Sintercom India Pvt. Ltd. The plant produces sintered components for the Indian automotive industry. F. Peter Mitterbauer is appointed to the Management Board of Miba AG in the same year.

Miba acquires a manufacturer of high-power resistors, Miba Resistors Austria GmbH & Co. KG in the Styrian town of Kirchbach, Austria. Miba acquires DAU GmbH & Co. KG in the Styrian town of Ligist, Austria, which manufactures cooling systems for electronic components.

British coatings specialist Teer Coatings in Droitwich, UK, is acquired and incorporated into the newly established Miba Coating Group. Teer Coatings remains part of Miba Group until January 2019.

2010

The Miba Group acquires the segment of the Hoerbiger group that manufactures friction materials for off-road applications. Within one year, the equipment is relocated from Germany and Poland to Roitham, Austria, and Vráble, Slovakia. Through this acquisition, the Miba Group also becomes owner of a friction materials plant in Pune, India, which since then operates as Miba Drivetec India.

2008

The new competence center for High Tech Coatings opens in Vorchdorf.

2007

Expansion into
China

Miba Precision Components (China) Co. (MPCC) opens in Suzhou, China. The new plant produces both engine bearings and sintered components for customers on the Chinese market. The company currently also manufactures coatings and friction materials.

Formation of a US
joint venture & HTC

2005

As part of a joint venture, the Miba Group forms subsidiary Advanced Bearing Materials (ABM) in the US town of Greensburg, Indiana. ABM manufactures primary materials for the production of engine bearings. This same year, Miba acquires the coatings business from a small company in Styria, Austria. Operating under the name High Tech Coatings (HTC), the company coats engine components.

2004

The friction materials plant in Roitham, Upper Austria, opens. Miba Frictec moves to this new site.

2001

The Miba Group buys an engine bearings plant in the US village of McConnelsville, Ohio. It continues to operate as Miba Bearings US.

1999

The mechanical and plant engineering business is spun off from Miba Gleitlager AG and from this point on operates as its own limited liability company (GmbH) called Miba Automation Systems (MAS). Miba Akademie opens as a training and continuing education center, and Miba acquires Sintermetal S.A. in Ripollet, Catalonia. By making this investment, the Miba Sinter Group bolsters its production capacities by 25 percent. Eight years later, the plant is sold when the site strategy is reprioritized.

1998

The Miba Group acquires a 30 percent shareholding in a Brazilian sinter plant within the Mahle Group, located in Indaiatuba, Brazil. The company called Mahle Metal Leve Miba Sinterizados supplies the local production plants of the international automotive industry.

1990

In Miba’s bearing business, the sputter bearing goes into serial production. Miba Sintermetall enters into a joint venture with its Slovakian partner ZVL in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia, and sets up sinter production operations. Within four years, Miba becomes the full owner of Miba Sinter Slovakia.

Miba Frictec

1989

At an organizational level, friction materials manufacturing is spun off from Miba Sintermetall AG and operates as Miba Frictec GmbH from this point on. Miba now has three divisions: bearings, sintered metal and friction materials.

1986

The initial public offering. The company issues non-voting preferred shares. Proceeds total 150 million Austrian schillings.

1983

Change on the
Management Board

Following the death of the company’s founder, Franz Mitterbauer, at age 78, Peter Mitterbauer takes over as Chairman of the Management Board of the holding company.

1975

Franz Mitterbauer appoints his son Peter to be Chairman of the Management Board of Miba Gleitlager AG. Miba takes over the friction materials business of the German company Duria and relocates its production facilities to Vorchdorf.

1972

The sinter plant opens in Vorchdorf, Upper Austria. The sintering business now has its own production site.

1955

Miba brand

An acronym derived from the Mitterbauer family name, the brand name Miba is introduced.

Breakthrough

1949

After countless attempts and years of painstaking work, the company manages to produce competitive lead bronze engine bearings. Industrial production begins.

1935

Franz Mitterbauer officially registers his motor vehicle repair business. At this time, the metalworking and repair shop has five employees.

1927

Start signal

Not yet 22 years old, Franz Mitterbauer takes over the metalworking shop at No. 30 Laakirchen, Upper Austria, previously owned by his apprenticeship instructor.
