Miba presents innovative developments in bearing technology at Bearing World in Dresden

At the 6th Bearing World in Dresden, the international FVA conference for rolling and plain bearings, Miba presented a forward-looking topic. In his presentation titled “Electromagnetic Pulse Technology for Hydrodynamic Plain Bearing Technology – Insights into an Innovative Coating Technology,” our colleague Lukas Aitzetmüller introduced an innovative approach that opens up new perspectives for the development of hydrodynamic bearings.

The Electromagnetic Pulse Technology (EMPT) presented uses extremely short, high-current magnetic pulses to apply tribological coatings—such as aluminum or copper alloys—to steel components without contact and without thermal stress. This results in high-strength bonds without changes in microstructure or warping. At the same time, the process is scalable, making it attractive for both prototyping and series production.

Especially for components where conventional thermal processes reach their limits, EMPT creates new possibilities for the next generation of plain bearing technology.

We would like to thank everyone for the many exciting discussions and the valuable exchange of ideas at the event.
